Employee Housing

T

ince its inception, ASL has been helping colleges and universities, particularly those in high cost-of-living areas, provide affordable housing to its employees. From financial assistance programs to full housing development programs, we are skilled at listening, analyzing, recommending, and implementing employee housing programs.

We begin our employee housing projects by helping our client create a solid vision for the purpose of the housing program. The initial analysis phase includes a housing cost impact analysis, legal and regulatory environment analysis and market research. Following this we provide alternative financing strategies, some of which allow the client to recoup all of its initial investment. We then help our clients implement the housing project and bring their vision to a reality. In all cases we keep an eye on the sustainability of the project to assure future owners and renters of the housing enjoy the same benefit of affordable housing. Other services in this area include:

  • Visioning/mission development
  • Market research
  • Housing cost impact analysis
  • Legal/regulatory analysis
  • Financing strategies
  • Site selection
  • Development pro forma
  • Financial assistance program design
  • Implementation strategies
  • Program implementation
  • Legal coordination
  • Development management

Perhaps are most important achievement, ASL has hands-on experience in implementing the projects it plans. We have been involved with the development of almost 1,000 units of faculty-staff housing and have another 500 in planning, design or construction. A half-dozen colleges and universities are using financial assistance programs we designed. We have also provided initial staffing, training and oversight of management staff and activities.
